Cumilla BNP slams Hasnat’s remarks as ‘childish'

Issues one-week ultimatum for 'unconditional apology'

The Cumilla division unit of the BNP has reacted strongly to recent statements by Hasnat Abdullah, chief coordinator (South) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), calling them "childish and politically immature".

The written statement at the press conference was read out by Md Selim Bhuiyan, organisational secretary of the BNP Cumilla Division.

He said, "Recently, Hasnat Abdullah stated at an event, 'BNP leaders and activists in Cumilla do politics with Awami League's money.' Such a remark is not only false but also politically indecent, irresponsible, and misleading. This has hurt and angered our leaders and activists."

Selim Bhuiyan alleged that Hasnat made such comments due to political immaturity. He said, "As a party spokesperson, such comments are not only shameful but also an attempt to destabilise the political environment."

He further said, "A person who, as the spokesperson of the NCP, known as the kings party, makes such irresponsible and provocative remarks, has a questionable political standing. We believe that an interim government should remove such childish, immature politicians from the field to ensure a free and fair election environment."

Issuing a one-week ultimatum to Hasnat, Selim Bhuiyan said, "He must offer us an unconditional apology. If he does not retract his statement and apologise, it will become difficult for him to continue political activities in Cumilla. We are giving him this opportunity, but if the deadline passes, he will no longer have a place on the streets of Cumilla."

"No matter how much the government delays the election, the people of the country want their voting rights restored," the BNP leader added.
