A motorcyclist and his pillion passenger were killed in a road accident on the Dinajpur-Birampur regional road in Dinajpur's Phulbari upazila early today.

The dead have been identified as Sohag Hossain, 26, and Md Tojammel Haque, 36.

Both were employees in separate restaurants.

Quoting locals, Abdullah Al Mamun, inspector (investigation) of Phulbari Police Station, told The Daily Star over the phone that the victims were returning home when, around 1:00am, a Dinajpur-bound truck hit the motorcycle from behind, killing Sohag on the spot and leaving Tojammel critically injured.

Locals rushed Tojammel to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex, where he succumbed to his injuries after admission, the inspector said.

Sohag's elder brother Rashidul Islam filed a case under the Road Transport Act, accusing the unidentified truck driver.

Police are trying to trace the truck and its driver, the inspector said.
