A journalist came under attack while on duty last night in Kandirpar area of Cumilla city.

Bahar Uddin Raihan, Cumilla correspondent of the Somoy TV, received three stiches on his right leg as he suffered injuries, said the on-duty doctor at Comilla General Hospital.

Victim Bahar told The Daily Star, "I've filed a complaint with Kotwali Model Police Station against five to six unidentified attackers on charge of attempt to murder."

Mohinul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station, said that they will take immediate action with proper investigation.

Journalist Bahar said that the attack took place around 9:30pm yesterday when he was covering a protest rally staged by Chhatra Dal activists who were deprived of positions in a new committee.

While capturing footage of the protest, a group of miscreants suddenly attacked him at the scene, he said. When asked about the identities of the attackers, Bahar said he did not recognise them.

Before the rally, the committee of Cumilla South District and City unit of Chhatra Dal was formed yesterday, he added.

When asked, Yusuf Mollah Tipu, member secretary of Cumilla city unit of BNP, told reporters last night that if anyone from the party was found involved in the attack will be punished.
