Female AL leader, husband arrested in Ctg

Police arrested a female Awami League leader and her husband, also an AL leader based in Florida, USA, during a drive in Chattogram city today in connection with a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The arrestees are Zeenat Sohana Chowdhury, 44, and her husband Emran, 68, said Arifur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Baizid Bostami Police Station.

According to police, Zeenat is the law affairs secretary of the Chattogram North District AL and also the Chattogram coordinator of the AL-backed Suchinta Foundation. Her husband, Emran, is the president of the Florida state unit of the Awami League in the USA.

OC Arifur also said the couple was arrested from the port city's Baizid area in the case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Baizid Bostami Police Station on January 20 this year.
