3 killed in road crashes in 3 districts

Three people were killed and seven others injured in road accidents in Thakurgaon, Dinajpur and Jhenidah today.
In Thakurgaon, a motorcyclist was killed on the Lahiri-Charol road in Langkapur Muhuripara village under Baliadangi upazila around 1:30pm.
The deceased is Dipak Chandra Roy, 26, of Senihari village in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.
Sub-Inspector Abdus Sabur of Baliadangi Police Station told The Daily Star that a sand-laden tractor, heading towards Lahiri, hit the motorcycle while overtaking.
Dipak died on the spot, while two others on the bike -- Hridoy Chandra, 21, and Niloy Chandra, 19 -- were injured.
A case was filed and efforts are underway to trace the tractor, the SI added.
In Dinajpur, a woman was killed and five others injured when a bus lost control and crashed into a tree on the Dinajpur-Thakurgaon highway in the Jamtoli Satmile area in Sadar upazila around 6:45pm.
The identity of the deceased woman, aged about 45, could not be confirmed immediately.
Md Motiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station, said the incident occurred around 6:45pm when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the tree, leaving six people injured.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where the woman was declared dead. The remaining five are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
In Jhenidah, a motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision with a truck in Shahpur-Ghighati area under Kaliganj upazila.
The victim is Jahangir Hossain, 55, of Natima village of Maheshpur upazila, said Kaliganj Police Station OC Shahidul Islam Howlader.
The accident occurred at 10:30am in the Shahpur-Ghighati area in Kaliganj-Kotchandpur road.
Locals said when he was riding towards Kaliganj town from Maheshpur, the motorcycle collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction in the Shahpur-Ghighati area. He died on the spot.
Police went to the spot, recovered his body, and sent it to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
