BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has once again called on Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus to hold the national elections without further delay.

"I am telling the government and Yunus, please hold the national election quickly because the people did not elect you by vote. The people want to choose their own representatives. Ensure a voting process as soon as possible," he said yesterday.

Fakhrul made the remark while addressing a party programme at Munshirhat Girls' High School in Thakurgaon's Sadar upazila.

"As much as you [Yunus] delay holding the election, Hasina will get more time to say over the phone that she is coming back," he added. "By engaging in such misconduct, Hasina is stirring up unrest and provoking conflict."

The BNP leader also held two separate meetings in Thakurgaon yesterday.

Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference at the BNP's central office in Nayapaltan yesterday, party Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi called for the trial of business owners who had committed financial crimes and supported "fascists".

He also spoke about preparations for a Labour Day rally scheduled for today, where BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will address the event. The rally will be held in front of the party's central office around 2:00pm.
