Metro rail service has resumed after being suspended for over one and half hours today due to a problem in the power supply system, according to its authorities.

The setback caused enormous suffering to commuters during the rush hour.

Metro rail operations were suspended around 5:20pm due to the power supply being disrupted from the Bijoy Sarani substation, said Rezaur Rahman Akand, additional project director (electrical, signalling, telecommunication and track) of Mass Rapid Transit Line-6.

The problem has been solved and the operation is likely to start within few minutes, he told this correspondent at 6:45pm.

Ahsan Ullah Sharifi, deputy project director (public relations) of the MRT-6 project, said the operations resumed from 6:55pm.
