Agricultural diploma students stage demo at Khamarbari

Agriculture diploma students staged a demonstration at the gate of Department of Agricultural Extension in the capital's Khamarbari to press for their eight-point demand.

The students under the banner of Krishi Diploma Chhatra Adhikar Andolon (Agricultural Diploma Students' Rights Movement) started the programme titled "Agri Blockade" at Khamarbari in the Farmgate area at 9:00am.

They have been demanding opportunity for higher education for diploma students -- specifically, a dedicated agricultural university similar to Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) for polytechnic students. They also seek access to higher education in all public universities.

Asaduzzaman Abid, a student participating in the demonstration, said that nearly 2,000 students are taking part in this movement.

Police and army personnel are seen maintaining a cautious presence there.
