Bangladesh Citizen Party raises objection to National Citizen Party's name

The Bangladesh Citizen Party (BCP) has raised an objection to the abbreviated name of the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP).

On March 22, BCP General Secretary Shahriar Khan Abir sent a letter to the Election Commission (EC) regarding the matter.

According to the letter, "On February 28, a new political party named 'National Citizen Party' was formed. Recently, it has been observed in newspapers and on social media that there is significant discussion about the abbreviated name of the 'National Citizen Party.'"

Shahriar Khan Abir further mentioned in the letter, "The abbreviated name of the newly established 'National Citizen Party' should be 'JNP,' [from Jatiya Nagorik Party] but 'NCP' has been adopted, which is incorrect. This is because a name, regardless of the language it is written in, does not change."

On the matter, EC Additional Secretary KM Ali Nawaz said this afternoon, "We will be able to make a decision after examining and reviewing the issue in accordance with the laws and regulations."

Bangladesh Citizen Party, founded on December 1, 2018, is not yet registered as a political party with the EC.

Meanwhile, the National Citizen Party (NCP), the newly launched political party led by leaders of the July uprising, was formed on February 28 of this year.
