Nine brick kilns fined Tk 40 lakh

A mobile court has fined nine brick kilns Tk 40 lakh, demolished two, and shut down another in Sirajganj on charges of operating illegally and violating rules and regulations.

Abdullah Al Mamun, executive magistrate of the enforcement wing of the Department of Environment, conducted the drive in Sadar and Raiganj upazilas of the district on Monday.

 "During the drive, the mobile court found their illegal operation and use of wood in the kilns polluting the environment," said Md Tuhin Alom, assistant director of DoE, Sirajganj.

It fined MRS Rain Bricks Tk 6 lakh and demolished a part of it in Sadar upazila.

Besides, Surma Bricks, H Ali Bricks, HS Bricks, Sun Bricks, and Hero Bricks were fined Tk 5 lakh each; SNB Bricks was fined Tk 4 lakh; and MRS Super Bricks and MRS Reza Bricks were fined Tk 2.5 lakh each in Raiganj.

The mobile court also closed MRS Alfa Bricks and demolished Jenin Bricks in Raiganj. It also demolished a part of Sun Bricks in the upazila.
