Ministry team to select site next week
A high-powered team of the education ministry will come to Rangpur next week to take necessary steps to start academic activities of Rangpur University this year.
Sources in the district administration said, a three-member team of the ministry led by Joint Secretary Shafiqul Islam will visit establishments of Rangpur Teachers Training College and some other government institutions to see whether those can be used to start classes of honours courses in six subjects.
The team will also visit some proposed sites of the university.
Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Abdul Ahad said, “I was informed about the visit but any letter is yet to reach”.
Chief Advisor of the caretaker government Faqruddin Ahmed after a cabinet meeting here on February 2 declared that a full-fledged university would be set up in Rangpur.
Later, Education Advisor Hosen Zillur during his visit to Rangpur in July declared that academic activities of Rangpur University will be started this year.
