The government yesterday placed three bills in the parliament for increasing the number of members in the three hill district councils so that the agencies could incorporate representatives from all indigenous communities, large or small.   
Currently, the hill district councils are too small to take members from all communities.
State Minister for CHT Affairs Bir Bahadur U Shwe Sing placed the three bills--Rangamati Hill District Council (Amendment) Bill, Bandarban Hill District Council (Amendment) Bill and Khagrachhari Hill District Council (Amendment) Bill.  
In the bills, the numbers of the members were increased from three to 10 to incorporate representatives from all indigenous communities living in Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari. According to the bills, each council would be headed by a chairman.
The three bills were sent to the relevant parliamentary standing committee for scrutiny. The committee has been asked to submit its reports within three weeks.
The interim councils for Rangamati and Bandarban comprise five people each, including the chairman, while the one in Khagrachhari has three members and a chairman.
According to the bills, the three councils will draw members from all indigenous communities and each council will have three non-tribal people as members.
