‘Titli Udi’ singer Sharda Rajan passes away at 89

Sharda Rajan, a popular singer, passed away on Wednesday after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Sharda's daughter turned to social media to announce the singer's death. Sudha Madeira said on Facebook, "With great sadness, my brother Shammi Rajan and I announce the passing of our beloved mother, playback singer Sharda Rajan, after a long and valiant battle with cancer."

Sharda Rajan was a popular name in the 1960s and 1970s. In addition to "Titli Udi" from "Suraj," she received a Filmfare Award for the cabaret "Baat Zara Hai Aapas Ki" from "Jahan Pyar Miley."

According to sources, Raj Kapoor offered to put Sharda to the test after hearing her perform at an event. The singer has collaborated with many musical legends, including Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, and Mukesh. She lent her voice for iconic actors including Vyjayanthimala, Sadhana, Saira Banu, Hema Malini, Sharmila Tagore, Mumtaz, Rekha, and Helen.

Sharda Rajan dabbled with composing lyrics and made her debut as a music director in the mid-1970s. "Maa Behen Aur Biwi," "Tu Meri Main Tera,"  "Kshitij," "Mandir Masjid," and "Maila Anchal" are some of the movies she sung for.
