Declare April 10 as country’s ‘Republic Day’

Former state minister Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj announced a march from National Parliament Building area to Gono Bhaban on Monday to press home his three-point demand, which includes declaring April 10 as republic day.
On his verified Facebook profile, Sohel wrote he would also submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in this regard.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. "Since the first government of Bangladesh was formed on April 10, 1971, this day should be declared as 'Republic Day'," reads his status.
His two other demands include observing November 3 as "Jail Killing Day" and inclusion of comprehensive information -- such as names, contributions and biographies -- of freedom fighters, including the four national leaders, in the textbooks.
