Workers of Regent Textile Limited today blocked the road in front of the factory in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram – demanding their due salaries.

Following the road blockade, vehicular movement was suspended for three hours from 9:00am, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports.

The readymade garment factory workers also vandalised furniture inside the factory, according to police.

Confirming the incident, Assistant Superintendent of Police (admin and development) of Industrial Police in Chattogram, Jasim Uddin said, "Workers' salaries for February and March remain unpaid."

Police, however, brought the situation under control, he added.

Workers' leaders are now holding a meeting with the factory's admin officials, the police official said.

Boalkhali Police Station Officer-in-charge Abdul Karim said they moved the demonstrating workers from the road around 12:00pm.

There are around 1,200 workers in the factory.
