The apparel manufacturers today urged the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh to arrange 40 trucks to sell goods especially to the garment workers at lower prices for their relief from the skyrocketing prices of some basic commodities.

Faruque Hassan, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), made the call during a meeting with the TCB chairman at the corporation's headquarters in Dhaka.

Hassan shared the information in a press conference at Amari Dhaka hotel in the capital today.

However, he did not share any detail about their demand for the TCB trucks.

The BGMEA has been lobbying with the influential bodies in Europe and USA, the two main export destinations of the country, so that the export grows in near future, Hassan said.

For instance, the BGMEA has signed a memorandum of understanding with the American Apparel and Footwear Association to expand Bangladesh's apparel market in the USA.

He also said the garment makers are receiving higher prices from the international retailers and brands as they are adjusting the prices of raw materials with the per unit garment item.

The Russia and Ukraine war started affecting the export of goods to the two countries at a time when the sector has been recovering from the severe fallouts of the Covid-19 pandemic, Hassan said.
