Shakib out of first Test against Pakistan

Bangladesh premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will not be available for the first Test against Pakistan, starting from November 26 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

The selectors included Shakib in the 16-member Test squad which was announced on Monday but chief selector Minhajul Abedin told The Daily Star today that Shakib is set to miss the Tigers' first World Test Championship fixture of the new cycle.

"Shakib will miss the first Test, that's for sure. He is yet to recover from injury. After assessing the physiotherapist's report, we can say whether he will be available for the second Test," said Minhajul.

Shakib sustained a hamstring injury during Bangladesh's third game of the ICC T20 World Cup Super-12 stage against West Indies and missed the last two Super 12 games for Bangladesh against South Africa and Australia respectively. He also missed the three-match T20I series against Pakistan in Mirpur.
