Deep depression intensifies into Cyclone ‘Gulab’; Rain likely across country

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely at many places in the country as the deep depression over East Central Bay and adjoining Northeast Bay intensified into cyclonic storm 'Gulab'.

"The deep depression moved westwards and intensified into cyclonic storm 'Gulab' over Northwest Bay and adjoining west-central Bay", Bangladesh Meteorological Department said on Sunday in a regular bulletin.

"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur one or two places over Dhaka, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy fall at isolated places over the southern part of the country," it added

The weather may remain mainly dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.

It is likely to move West-Northwestwards further. The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Centre of the Cyclone to Assam across Bangladesh.

Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and moderates over the North Bay.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

Besides, the maritime ports of the country have been advised to hoist distant warning signal number two.

It was centered at 6 am on Sunday about 665 km Southwest of Chattogram port, 630 km Southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 525 km South of Mongla port, and 530 km south of Payra port, said the bulletin.

It is likely to move in a West-Northwesterly direction further.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone center is about 62 KPH rising to 88 kph in gusts or squalls.

Sea will remain very rough near the cyclone center.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and the deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution.

They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
