Ctg shipping companies, dockyard, med shop fined

A court of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) yesterday fined ten shipping companies, and a dockyard Tk 4.8 lakh for various irregularities.

CPA conducted the drive in the port area and fined MV Mayer Adesh, MV Beauty of Matlab, OT Shufala-1, OT Hilton, MV Manwar Zahir, MV Golap-3, MV King of Narisa, MV Nirjhar-3, MV Al Ittehad and MV Al Bahar Tk 2.80 lakh for date-expired fire extinguishers, not having masters and drivers certificates and safety gears.

An illegal dockyard, "Madina Dockyard" on the bank of Karnaphuli River in Patiya upazila was sealed off and its owner Sheikh Ahammed was fined Tk 2 lakh. He was given a five-day ultimatum to evacuate the land.

Meanwhile, a Chittagong district administration court sealed off an illegal medicine shop in Station road Kotwali area. "Noakhali Dawakhana" was fined Tk 50,000 and around 400 bottles of unauthorised medicines were seized.
