Bangladesh's Covid-19 fatalities rose to 7,981 as the country's health authorities recorded 15 more coronavirus-related deaths in 24 hours till yesterday morning.

The Covid-19 caseload reached 530,890 with the detection of 619 new cases, said a handout from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.

So far, 3,530,274 samples have been tested -- 14,924 in those 24 hours.

The DGHS handout said the daily detection rate was 4.17 percent while the overall rate is 15.04 percent.

Until yesterday morning, 475,561 patients -- 89.58 percent -- have recovered. "The mortality rate is 1.50 percent," the DGHS said.
