Two held for raping ninth-grader

A case was filed yesterday in connection with the rape of a college student in Barishal's Agailjhara upazila on October 24 while Rangpur, police arrested two persons on Tuesday in connection with the gang-rape of a ninth-grader on Sunday.

Also in Narayanganj Sunny, 18, a resident of Shiachar area under Sadar upazila, was arrested for raping a minor girl.

According to the case statement of Barishal, the accused -- Nayan Mondol -- took the 19-year-old girl to a deserted place in Bagda and raped her.

Sensing the matter, four people went to the spot and took both the rapist and the girl to a nearby school where the four tried to rape her, the case statement added.

The girl's screams alerted the locals who then rushed to the spot and rescued the girl.

The victim filed a case with Agailjhara Police Station against Nayan for rape, said Golam Sarwar, officer-in-charge of Agailjhara Police Station.

Four others were also made accused in the case for attempted rape, he added.

In Rangpur, police arrested two persons on Tuesday in connection with the gang-rape of a ninth-grader on Sunday.

The lasts arrestees are -- Babul Hossain, 38, and Kalam Azad. They are residents of different areas of Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila.

In primary interrogation, the arrestees gave confessional statement, said ABM Zakir Hossain Additional SP of PBI in Rangpur.

Earlier on Sunday evening, police arrested two women -- Sumaiya Akter Meghla, 35, alias Aleya Begum and Suravi Akter, 30, alias Sampa -- in connection with the case.

The duo was sent to jail though a court yesterday.

Besides, Raihanul Islam, 27, an assistant sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) police of Rangpur, was suspended on Monday for alleged involvement with the case.

The victim's family members said Raihanul Islam identified himself as Raju, and was known to the victim.

Around noon on Sunday, Raihanul took the girl to Aleya's house and raped her. Then, two others also raped the girl, police said, quoting the victim's family members.

The victim dialled 999 in the evening seeking help and around 8:30pm, police rushed to the spot and rescued the girl, said the victim's mother.

The victim's father filed a case with Haragachha Police Station under Rangpur Metropolitan Police later that night.

In Narayanganj, rape accused Sunny was stalking the victim, a student of class six at a local kindergarten.

On Sunday noon, the victim's mother went to visit a doctor after keeping the girl to one of their neighbours.

At one stage, the girl alone went back to her flat to take food. When the girl opened the door, the accused sunny forcibly entered into the room and raped her. The alleged rapist fled the scene around 30 minutes later.

Later on the evening, the victim's mother returned home. Then the girl shared the incident with her mother.

A day later, the victim's mother filed a case with Fatullah Model Police Station. Then, police arrested the accused, who in primary interrogation gave confessional statement, said Aslam Hossain, OC of the police station.

In Noakhali, Delawar Hossain, the prime accused of the case of the gang-rape and torture of a woman in Begumgunj upazila of Noakhali, was sent to jail yesterday.

Earlier at noon, he was produced before the district's chief judicial magistrate court after five-day remand. After a hearing, judge of Cognizance Court Number-1 sent him to jail, said Sirajul Mostafa, inspector of PBI on Noakhali.

Delwar and other members of "Delwar Bahini" broke into the house of the victim at Joykrishnapur village of Eklashpur union in Begumganj upazila on the night of September 2 and tortured her as she had repeatedly refused Delwar's immoral proposals earlier.
