India successfully test-fires supersonic cruise missile

India yesterday successfully test-fired its supersonic cruise missile BrahMos, developed jointly with Russia, from the Indian Navy's indigenously-built stealth destroyer, hitting a target in the Arabian Sea. The missile, fired from the warship INS Chennai, "hit the target successfully with pin-point accuracy after performing high-level and extremely complex manoeuvres," the Indian Defence Ministry said in a statement. "BrahMos as the 'prime strike weapon' will ensure the warship's invincibility by engaging naval surface targets at long ranges, thus making the destroyer another lethal platform of the Indian Navy," it said.
