When Tamim stopped making fun of teammates regarding catch drops

Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal talked about how he stopped making fun of teammates regarding catch drops since the Adelaide incident -- when Tamim dropped English all-rounder Chris Woakes' catch during a crucial World Cup fixture in 2015.

The topic about catch drops came up in Tamim's Facebook live chat yesterday with Taskin Ahmed and Rubel Hossain where the ODI skipper also included all-rounder Nasir Hossain for a brief period.

Bangladesh ensured their maiden World Cup quarterfinal appearance after defeating England by 15 runs in Adelaide in the 2015 edition. However, that match could well have slipped away from Tigers' grasp when Tamim dropped Wokes' all important catch. England required 20 runs off 15 deliveries and Woakes had skied one at long on off a Taskin delivery. Tamim, who was fielding in that position dropped the catch and it seemed like the left-hander just ruined Bangladesh's golden chance of progressing to the knockout phase for the first time. However, thanks to Rubel, who scalped two wickets in three deliveries in the next over, Bangladesh won the game and made history.

Reminiscing those memories, Tamim mentioned how he often used to make fun of Nasir regarding catch drops.

"I always used to give Nasir this hypothetical situation, saying, 'Nasir, just imagine it is the World Cup final and just two runs required of one ball. The opponent skied one at that time and you drop the catch. How would you feel?'. I always used to say this to Nasir jokingly but maybe the Almighty took it seriously and it happened with me," sighed Tamim.

Tamim also shared how he felt after he had missed Woakes' catch in that game.

"I dropped Woakes' catch off Taskin's delivery in the 2015 World Cup at a very crucial moment. I felt like burying myself under the ground after I missed the chance. No one needs to see me. I was cursed 32 crore times right at that moment. Because the population of 16 crore in Bangladesh cursed me twice and hence 32 crore curses," explained Tamim.

The left-hander also mentioned how thankful he was to Rubel after the right-arm pacer had ensured Bangladesh's path to their maiden World Cup quarterfinal.

"Then Rubel took two wickets and we won the game. If you see the highlights of that game, you will notice that everyone ran towards Rubel to celebrate the victory but I ran towards him with a feeling that, 'I am safe'. Had we lost that game, I could not have return to Bangladesh," said Tamim.
