Man killed over land dispute

An elderly man was beaten to death and his son injured in a clash over land dispute at Sinduri-Boruria village in Sujanagar upazila under the district yesterday.

The deceased was Sohrab Mollah, 65, son of Abu Taher Mollah of the village.

Locals said Sohrab had a longstanding feud with Moti Jowardar of the village over capturing a disputed land.

Sohrab along with his son Shahin went to the disputed land at around 4:00pm to prepare it for cultivating crops. Receiving the news, Moti and his men rushed in and swooped on Sohrab and his son.

They beat up the duo mercilessly, leaving Sohrab and his son critically injured.

Sohrab and Shahin were admitted to Pabna Medical College Hospital where Sohrab succumbed to his injuries at around 6:00pm, said Md Mofizul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Aminpur Police Station.
