EC orders withdrawal of N'ganj SP
The Election Commission (EC) has directed the Public Security Division to withdraw Narayanganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Anisur Rahman.
“The decision to withdraw the SP has been taken on specific allegations,” EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said at a press briefing last night.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. The EC move came after the BNP-led 20-party alliance placed a demand for removal of the police official.
Earlier in the day, the EC sent a letter to the Public Security Division to withdraw the SP.
On November 25, the 20-party alliance placed a written demand for removal of the Narayanganj SP, saying that they doubt he would discharge the election duty neutrally as his wife Fatema Tuzzahura is a member of parliament.
On November 26, the Deputy Commissioner of Natore was withdrawn. Besides, the EC has already asked to withdraw the officers-in-charge of Louhajang and Mithapukur police stations.
