2 JCD activists remanded

A Dhaka court yesterday placed two activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the students' wing of BNP, on a one-day remand each in one of the three cases filed over the Nayapaltan clash between BNP men and police on November 14.

Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after they were produced before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

The arrestees are Roman Ahmed and Md Azad Hossain, both activists of Kabi Nazrul Government College unit of JCD.

“My son Roman and his friend Md Azad were picked up on November 24,” Roman's father Forhad Hossain said.

At least 20 BNP men and many police officials were injured in the clash that broke out between BNP activists and police in front of the party's Nayapaltan central office on November 14.

Three cases were filed with Paltan Police Station in this connection, accusing 488 leaders and activists of BNP including senior leaders Mirza Abbas and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
