The Dhaka University authorities yesterday terminated three teachers -- two for not joining work at the end of their study leave and one for “absenting” from academic activities. 

The decision was made at a meeting of the DU syndicate, the highest governing body of the university, with Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair, Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, a syndicate member, said.

Lecturers Biplab Kumar Datta of Development Studies and Avishek Jaman of Genetic Engineering and Bio-Technology were sacked for not joining their departments following their leave. They were also asked to return the financial benefits they had taken from the university, he said.

The other teacher is Muhammad Azher Zafer Shah, assistant professor of International Relations, he added.
