Bus supervisor held

Police yesterday arrested supervisor of the bus on which a mentally challenged woman was raped at Bangabandhu Bridge east end in the district on Thursday night .
The supervisor, Md Ershad, 40, of Benukurshia village in Kalihati upazila, was arrested from his house.
Later, police produced him before a Tangail court yesterday seeking a five-day remand, said Kabirul Haque, investigation officer of the case.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Ashikuzzaman asked police to send him to jail and fixed today (Tuesday) for hearing on the remand prayer, he said.
The court also ordered to give the victim to the custody of her elder brother Md Helal as the latter submitted a prayer for taking her to his custody, said Court Inspector Anwarul Islam.
Police arrested helper Nazmul, 22, immediately after the incident. Nazmul told the police that driver Alam Khandakar raped the woman inside the standing bus and he was standing outside as watcher, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mosharaf Hossain of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station.
Sub-Inspector Noor Alam filed a case the next morning accusing the driver according to Nazmul's statement, he said.
"Nazmul in his confessional statement on Friday told the court that the driver and the supervisor raped the woman inside the bus," the OC added.
"So, now we need to quiz the supervisor after taking him in remand for verifying information that the helper told the police and the court," he said.
Police, however, could not arrest driver Alam, 45, yet.
