235 bags of rice for poor seized

Around 11,750 kg of rice of Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme were seized in separate raids in Panchbibi and Kalai upazilas of Joypurhat yesterday.

The rice was packed in 235 bags, of which 95 bags were seized from Kalai and 140 bags from Panchbibi.

Acting on a tip-off, a mobile court led by Kalai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Afaz Uddin raided the house of Abul Kashem at Balait village in the upazila and seized 95 bags of VGF rice.

Kalai Project Implementation Officer Md Zia Uddin filed a case with Kalai Police Station, accusing Abul Kashem.

Meanwhile, Panchbibi UNO Razibul Hasan raided Mohammadpur union parishad building on the same day and seized 140 bags of VGF rice.

Nobody was arrested in connection with the seizure.

The UNO said legal action will be taken against the persons involved after investigation.
