Clash over garment scrap injures five

At least 5 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups in Norshinghopur area of Ashulia in Savar yesterday.

The clash ensued when Rajon Bhuyan, Jubo League leader and cohorts intercepted Taher Mridha, a member of Yearpur Union Parishad on their way to collecting “jhut” or garment scrap from a factory. Police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control, witnesses said.

“I have been doing jhut business with DK garments for a long time. Recently Rajon Bhuyan, identifying himself as a Jubo league organising secretary is trying to take over the business,” Taher alleged.

“Rajon along with his 50 men attacked me with lethal weapons when I was on my way to the DK garments factory” he said, adding “they hacked Jalal, one of my companions, who is in a critical condition.”

Javed Masud, inspector investigation of Ashulia Police Station confirmed the matter.

The identities of the other four could not be known immediately. The Daily Star could not reach Rajon Bhuyan for a comment as his phone was switched off.

Additional police have been deployed in the area.

Earlier on May 31, Abu Taher and his men torched Rajon's private car over establishing control in Shona Mia Market area.
