Embezzling Tk 5.2 Crore

Allegation true

Says probe committee against Barguna college principal

A committee formed to investigate the misappropriation of Tk 5.2 crore by former principal of Amtali Government Degree College in Barguna, has found the allegation to be true.

The committee headed by Barisal education board Chairman Prof Mohammad Eunus asked former principal Md Mojibur Rahman to refund the embezzled money to the government fund, said acting principal Gazi Abdul Mannan.

Mannan, then serving as an assiatant professor of the college, lodged a complaint to the Director General of Department of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) on February 14 in 2017, seeking probe against Mojibur in this regard.

On April 23 in 2017, DSHE asked Prof Yunus to probe the matter and he submitted his report in August the same year.

According to the probe findings, Mojibur embezzled Tk 5.20 crore from the college fund during his eight years tenure.

Acting Principal Mannan said his predecessor tried to conceal the probe report with the help of a section of dishonest officials.

Mojibur said, “I didn't misappropriate the college fund. A section of teachers and employees filed false allegation only to harass me.”

Meanwhile, the Court of Amtali Senior Judicial Magistrate sent Mojibur to jail after he appeared before it in a case filed against him for embezzling Tk 17.60 lakh from 44 teachers and 11 employees in February 12 in 2017.
