Dowry-greedy man kills wife in Joypurhat

A woman was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry in Joypurhat's Kalai upazila on Saturday.

The deceased was Nurunnahar Begum, 26, wife of Mahmudul Hasan of Bandighi village in the upazila.

Family sources said Nurunnahar, daughter of Nur Hossain, married Mahmudul in 2012. Mahmudul and his family members often tortured Nurunnahar for dowry.

Mahmudul and his family members strangled Nurunnahar following an altercation over the issue and fled the scene.

Police sent the body to Joypurhat Modern Hospital for autopsy, said Abdul Latif, OC of Kalai Police Station.
