2 arrestees admit crime, say police

Two siblings arrested on Monday in connection with the killing of Dinajpur's Parbatipur BNP leader Mamunur Rashid Mamun and his said wife at Saidpur in Nilphamari have confessed to police their involvement in the double murder committed on November 29 last year, said police.

“Shibli Sadik Prodip, 30, and his younger brother Sagor Hossain, 22, son of Kalimuddin of Dhonbari village in Bochaganj of Dinajpur, were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court today,” Nilphamari Superintendent Police (SP) Ashraf Hossain told a press conference at his office yesterday.

The proceedings for their confessional statement under Section 164 were going on during filing of this report.

Earlier they told police that they killed petroleum trader Mamunur Rashid Mamun, 50, also joint secretary of Dinajpur's Parbatipur upazila unit of BNP, and his said wife Mim Tarin Sathi, 20, in a rented house at Jasim Bazar of Saidpur, on November 29 last year as Mamun refused to give them Tk 30 lakh as ransom, the SP said.
