Road accidents claim 9 lives

At least 9 people including a minor girl were killed in separate road accidents across the country.

In Dinajpur, HSC candidates Humayun Kabir, 22, Nawshad Islam, 22, were killed in Kaharol upazila yesterday, reports our district correspondent.

The students of Holyland College were on their way to Thakurgaon on a motorcycle when a speeding passenger bus hit the bike killing them on spot.

In another incident in Dinajpur yesterday, BCL leader Rasel Ahmed, 26, was killed when his motorcycle collided head on with another bike on Dinajpur-Gobindaganj road in Palashbari upazila, police quoted locals as saying.

In Chattogram, two cousins Md Rubel, 30, and Md Tarek, 14, were killed after a passenger bus collided head-on with a motorbike on Chattogram-Rangamati Highway at Raozan upazila yesterday, police said quoting locals.

The duo was taken to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the doctors declared them dead, police added.

In Mymensingh, Abhijit Singh Roy, 30, his wife Mony Singh Roy, 22, and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist Hasan, 28, were killed after their car collided with an oil tanker in the city yesterday, police said.

Mony died on spot, while the other four were taken to a local hospital. Abhijit succumbed to his injuries at a Mymensingh hospital, while Hasan died on his way to Dhaka, police added.

The incident left Abdullah Al Mamun Arif, 29, president of Mymensingh City BCL, and Abhijit's brother-in-law Sajib, 15, injured, who are now under treatment.

Meanwhile in Khulna, Tanni, 5, was killed on the spot when a Barishal bound bus hit her while crossing BIDC road in Khulna city on Tuesday, police said.
