Police team to visit KSA this month

Move to bring back Rajon murder accused Kamrul

A three-member police team is likely to visit Saudi Arabia in mid-October to bring back Kamrul Islam, the prime accused in Rajon murder case, with the assistance of Interpol.

The team will be headed by Mahbubul Karim, additional superintendent of police (police headquarters).

The other members are Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional (SMP) Deputy Commissioner (media) Mohammad Rahmatullah and Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police AFM Nizam Uddin.

Talking to The Daily Star yesterday afternoon, Rahmatullah said, “Everything has been finalised. We are just waiting for an official order.”

He said all the necessary documents for the repatriation of Kamrul had been sent to the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh.

SMP Commissioner Kamrul Ahsan said the accused is likely to be brought back to the country by the middle of this month.

The police headquarters has already received a letter from the KSA authorities over the matter, he said.

On July 8, thirteen-year-old Samiul Alam Rajon was beaten to death by Kamrul and several other brutes in Kumargaon Bus Stand area of Sylhet Sadar upazila.

Kamrul fled to Saudi Arabia soon after the murder. He was later detained by Saudi police.

On September 22, a Sylhet court framed charges against 13 people, including Kamrul, in a case filed for the murder.

Of the accused, 10 have so far been arrested.
