One to die, nine acquitted in Delwara murder case

A Chittagong court yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing a woman at Banshkhali upazila in Chittagong in 2003.

The convict is Abdur Sabur of Banshkhali upazila in Chittagong, court sources said.

The court of Chittagong Additional District and Session Judge-4 Tania Kamal handed down the verdict, said Public Prosecutor (PP) AKM Nurul Ahsan.

The court also acquitted nine others of all charge as they were not found guilty beyond reasonable doubt, the PP added.

Abdus Sabur and his cohorts attacked on his neighbour Mafiz over money feud on February 24, 2003.

Mafiz took shelter at a house of one Mozaher at the area to save his life. At one point Sabur shot Mafiz but the bullet hit Mozaher's wife Delwara, killing her.

Later Mozaher filed a case accusing 11 persons with Banshkhali Police Station. Police later submitted charge sheet on October 10, 2006.
