For his invaluable contribution to mime at global level, Bangla Academy this year conferred a honourary fellowship to internationally-famed Bangladeshi mime maestro Monsieur Partha Pratim Majumder. The maestro received the award from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the premier inaugurated the monthlong Omor Ekushey Book Fair at Bangla Academy premises on February 1. Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman, Speaker of the Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, MP and Bangla Academy Director General Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan were present among other dignitaries at the august occasion.
“Bangla Academy is a venerated place of the nation. I never thought that I'll be selected for the fellowship. For the first time, Bangla Academy, breaking the convention, conferred the fellowship to a Bangladeshi. I am honoured and grateful to the Bangla Academy authorities. My ultimate dream is to set up an international standard mime academy in Bangladesh,” said Partha Pratim Majumder.
Majumder has been conferred many awards and honours including the highest European honour for theatre, the “Molière Award”, conferred by Association professionnelle et artistique du théâtre in 2009; the highest honour of Bangladesh “Ekushey Padak” in 2010 and  the highest civilian award “Chevalier De L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres”, conferred by the Government of France in 2011.
