Beijing remains Asia’s busiest airport

Eight Asian airports are among the World's busiest passenger airports. Beijing Capital International Airport remains the busiest airport in the region, according to the recently released data by Airports Council International (ACI).

Beijing Capital International Airport handled most international traffic in 2015 in Asia adding 3.8 million to reach 89.9 million.

Worldwide passenger traffic increased 6.4% in 2015 to almost 7.2 billion, with increases in all the world's six regions: Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America, Latin America-Caribbean, Middle East and Africa.

The ACI is the global trade representative of the world's airports, established in 1991. It represents airports interests with Governments and international organisations. The ACI's figures are based on data from more than 2,300 airports in 160 countries worldwide.

In Asia, according to the ACI, Beijing Capital International Airport handled most international traffic in 2015 in Asia adding 3.8 million to reach 89.9 million.

However, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport remained the world's busiest passenger airport as 101 million passengers passed through it in 2015 putting Beijing airport in second place.

Tokyo Airport is second busiest Airport in Asia with 75.3 million passengers travelling through it in 2015. Hong Kong Airport comes at the eighth number as 68.2 million passengers traveled through the Airport in 2015. While as Shanghi Airport handled 60 million passengers, Singapore Airport 55.4 million passengers, Guangzhou Airport 55.2 million, Jakarta 54.5 million and Bangkok 52.9 million.

Overall in 2015, the highest number of passengers went through airports in the Asia-Pacific region with 2.46 billion, which is up 8.6 per cent over 2014.

According to the ACI, the worldwide cargo traffic, including mail, has risen to 2.6 per cent as Hong Kong, remains the world's largest air cargo hub. The US city of Memphis, Tennessee, took the second spot. It is followed by Shanghai Airport, China.
