S Asia Peace Initiative confce held

The 20th South Asia Peace Initiative (SAPI) conference was held on “Addressing the Critical Challenges of our Time: The Role of Governments, Parliamentarians, Civil Society and Faith-Based Organisations” at a hotel in the capital yesterday.

Universal Peace Federation (UPF) Bangladesh organised the programme where Speaker of the National Parliament, Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, was awarded “Ambassador for Peace” certificate.

She addressed the programme as the chief guest while lawmaker Kazi Firoz Rashid chaired it. A total of 18 lawmakers, civil society members, academicians, religious leaders and cultural personalities attended the programme, said a press release. Dr Chung Sik Yong, regional president for UPF-Asia, and Dr Robert S Kittel, education director, UPF-Asia, were also present.
