A guide through Dhaka roads for today

With several key roads of city curbed for Awami League’s grand council and university admission tests taking place simultaneously, Dhaka is expected to be chaotic today.

- Avoid Dhaka University

- Start early, traffic might snarl

Over 9,000 aspirants will be sitting for admission test of the much sought Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) at BUET campus in Dhaka University.

Though Awami League’s council will start from 10:00am formally, its leaders and activists are expected to begin gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan from all over Dhaka from 6:00am onwards.

With roads leading to Shahbagh from Matsya Bhaban, TSC, Doyel Chattar, Kakrail and Kataban remaining closed for the day, here are a few suggested alternatives.

HOW TO GO TO GULISTAN FROM FARMGATE & BACK

The Farmgate-Karwan bazaar road will be closed from 8:00am and until Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reaches the council spot. Shahbagh to Matsya Bhaban road will remain closed for the day.

Commuters are advised to use the Farmgate – Sonargaon Intersection - Moghbazar – Kakrail - Paltan route to reach Gulistan, Motijheel and beyond.

Alternatively, commuters can also use Farmgate – Panthapath – Kataban – Nilkhet – DU campus – Shaheed Minar road – Doel Chattar – High Court – Banga Bazar – Gulistan. 

HOW TO GO TO GULISTAN FROM UTTARA & BACK

Instead of using the Karwan Bazar and Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue route, Gulistan commuters are advised to take the Mohakahali – Sat Rasta – Moghbazar - Kakrail – Paltan route to reach Gulistan, Sadarghat, Motijheel and beyond.

Alternatively, they can also use the Biswa Road – Kuril – Bashundhara Gate – Rampura – Badda – Moghbazar – Kakrail – Paltan route to reach Gulistan, Sadarghat and beyond.

HOW TO GET TO GULISTAN FROM MOHAMMADPUR & BACK

For commuters travelling to Gulistan from Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur, the usual route is the Elephant road – which will be shut off from Katabon for the entire day.

Commuters are advised to use Mirpur Road – New Market- Nilkhet- DU campus (Fuller Road) – Doel Chattar – High Court crossing – Press Club – Paltan route to Gulistan and beyond.

Alternatively, commuters can use the Panthapath – Karwan Bazar rail crossing – Moghbazar – Kakrail – Paltan route to reach Gulistan, Sadarghat and beyond.

HOW TO GET TO SADARGHAT FROM GABTOLI/MIRPUR

Commuters can use Mirpur Road – New Market- Nilkhet- DU campus (Fuller Road) – Doel Chattar – High Court crossing – Press Club – Paltan route to reach Gulistan, Sadarghat from Gabtoli or Mirpur.

Alternatively, Mirpur Road – Panthapath – Karwan Bazar rail crossing – Moghbazar – Kakrail – Paltan route to reach Gulistan, Sadarghat and beyond.
