Rizvi gets HC bail in 5 cases

The High Court today granted bail to BNP leader Rizvi Ahmed for six months in five separate criminal cases.

The HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury granted the bail after hearing five petitions filed by Rizvi seeking bail in the cases.

Rizvi cannot get released from the jail following the HC order as he was arrested in another criminal case, Sagir Hossain Leon, lawyer for Rizvi, told The Daily Star.

The five cases were filed with Ramna, Motijheel, Khilgaon and Pallabi police stations in 2013 and 2015 during the anti-government movement enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.

Of the cases, two were filed on charges of killing and three filed over vandalism and arson attacks, he said.

Rizvi was sent to jail after he surrendered before a Dhaka court on August 18 this year in connection with the cases.
