Different political and socio-cultural organisations will observe the day with an array of programmes.
On this day in 1994, Jahanara died of cancer in Michigan, US at the age of 65. She was born in Murshidabad district of West Bengal on May 3, 1929.
In a message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she believed that proper respect would be shown to Jahanara by completing the trial of the war criminals.
Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, a platform formed in 1992 by Jahanara to raise voice for the trial of the war criminals, will hold an event in the WVA auditorium at the capital's Dhanmondi. The programme will include Jahanara Imam Memorial Lecture, a discussion, and the handing over of an award named after her.
Eminent legal expert Barrister M Amir-ul-Islam and Justice ABM Khairul Haque will receive the award as individuals, while Gonojagoron Mancha, a platform of youths demanding the highest punishment for the war criminals, will be awarded as an organisation.
Jahanara Imam's family was directly involved in the Liberation War of 1971.
