Detectives today claimed arrest of six people from Dhaka over shooting a private university student and hijacking his car from the city last month.

Two of the arrestees Alam Vandari and Touhidul islam were held in separate raids last night. The hijacked car was seized from a house in Uttara, said Mahbubur Rashid, inspector of Detective Branch (west).

Earlier, the law enforcers arrested four others -- Faruque, Titu, Sumon and Faruque – five days ago from different parts of the capital in connection to this incident, he added.

On June 24, a gang of criminals shot Asif Abdullah, 22, student of a private university, and hijacked his car in Dhaka’s Bijoy Sarani flyover while returning home from Old Dhaka after sehri.

About three to four carjackers waylaid them with a truck on the Bijoy Sarani flyover. They were posing as labourers. They shot Asif on the chest and fled with the private car.
