Works of late Zillur deserve place in school curricula: CJ

Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain yesterday said the autobiography and works of late president Zillur Rahman deserve inclusion in primary and secondary curricula as those are precepts for the new generation.
Zillur played pioneering roles in Bangladesh's democratic struggles including the Language Movement, six-point demand and mass upsurge and was an organiser of the Liberation War, he told a meeting, held in memory of Zillur, in the capital.
Greater Mymensingh Cultural Forum and Greater Mymensingh Coordination Council (GMCC) organised the function.
Justice Muzammel said Zillur never gave up his ideology, principle and national interest for his personal interest, although he faced crises at different times particularly in 1971, 1975, 2004 and 2007.
As a senior lawyer he had profound faith on the rule of law and human rights, and was very respectful towards the independence and dignity of the judiciary, he said.
The chief justice said the late president had considered ensuring justice for the people, particularly the poor and women, as the target of law profession.
Food Minister Md Abdur Razzaque; former finance minister Dr Saiduzzaman; Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star; senior journalist Rahat Khan; Justice Md Jahangir Hossain; and GMCC Secretary General Rashedul Hasan Shely also spoke at the event.
