Work on expansion of Airport Railway Station begins

Work on the expansion and modernisation of the existing Airport Railway Station to turn it into the second biggest railway station of the city began yesterday, reports BSS.

Communications Minister Anwar Hossain formally inaugurated the development work of the station which will cost about Taka 9 crore.

State Minister for Communications Anisul Haq Chowdhury, AKM Rahmatullah MP, Communications Secretary Rezaul Hayat and General Manager of Bangladesh Railway Md Abdur Rahim were present.

Initially only local and mail trains used to stop at the Airport Station with the expansion all inter-city trains will now be able to stop at the station.

Once the project is completed, the new station will be equipped with additional facilities like raising the line capacity, building of new platform and platform shed, passengers waiting room and foot over-bridge, sources added.
