Woman implicates parents in funding
A woman yesterday implicated her parents in financially supporting Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir's subversive activities, including the recent Fatikchhari mayhem.
Her father Mofizur Rahman, a Jamaat “Rukan” (leader), sent around Tk 16 lakh to Chittagong city last week from Oman where her family lives, Saima Akhter told journalists at Chittagong Press Club. Her parents have long been collecting funds for Jamaat in Humria, Oman and they occasionally visit Bangladesh, she said.
Last year, Saima married former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Hasanuzzaman Arman in Chittagong city before leaving for Oman, she said. When her parents learned of this, they tortured her, Saima said, adding that she secretly came to Bangladesh on July 4. Her parents sued Arman and had him arrested recently, she said. “Jamaat-Shibir men are now threatening me and my in-laws.” Mofizur, now in Oman, and his wife Salma Begum, currently in Bangladesh, could not be contacted.
