Wedding of Col Rashid's daughter
Wedding of Mehnaz Rashid, daughter of Col (retd) Abdur Rashid Khandaker, an absconding accused in the Bangabandhu murder case, was held in the city on Thursday, reports UNB. A small number of close relatives were present at the simple ceremony at the bride's residence at Gulshan, said a press release issued by the groom's father yesterday. The bridegroom Shakeeb Ahmed Juned, an MBA from Bangkok University and son of a former director of Bangladesh Shell Juned A Chowdhury, is a senior executive in Banque Indosuez in Dhaka. The release said Mehnaz's mother and Shakeeb's parents have expressed regrets for the inconvenience's caused to the invitees due to cancellation of the wedding and walima receptions for reasons beyond their control.
The marriage ceremony and post-wedding reception were scheduled to be held on July 24 and 26 respectively at the club of Jatiya Sangsad. Defence counsel of Zobaida Rashid, Mehnaz's mother had booked the club for the functions, which were cancelled by the authorities following suggestions by the intelligence agencies. Advocate Mahbubur Rahman, an MP of BNP, was the counsel for Zobaida when she, along with 19 others, was charged with the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Zobaida Rashid, however, was later discharged by the High Court from the Bangabandhu murder case, of which the trial is now being held at the Dhaka District and Sessions Judge Court.
