UNIQLO iftar at Sonargaon
To mark UNIQLO's presence in the Bangladeshi market, the global chain in association with Grameen hosted an iftar at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel's Café Bazaar on 28 July. The iftar followed an introduction with the client team of Grameen UNIQLO, as the chain is known as.
One of the first major global clothing brands to open their doors in Bangladesh, Grameen UNIQLO has brought high-street fashion right back to the source where most of the world's franchises see their clothes being made. A tie-up between the global powerhouse UNIQLO and Grameen Bank, Grameen UNIQLO has eyed the 70-billion dollar retail market with the revenue generated expected to be used for social projects as part of Grameen's CSR model. Those present were informed of the project's CSR plans, including a detailed look at the social business framework. This framework establishes a method so that all product-related processes can be completed within Bangladesh -- from raw materials procurement to production, logistics and finally the sales of these products concluding in the reinvestment of the profits for socially beneficial ventures.
Targeting Bangladesh's consumption boom, Grameen UNIQLO brings highly affordable, quality products for the local market for both men and women. The line includes slim fit jeans, t-shirts, shirts and much more. Grameen UNIQLO has started off with two stores in Dhaka, with further plans to expand to other areas. The stores are located on the first floor, 234/2, New Elephant Road (Dr. Kudrat E Khuda Road), Dhaka and on the ground floor, 41/8 Block C, Banasree, Rampura, Dhaka. The brand was inaugurated in Bangladesh on 5 July 2013.
