Two killed over land disputes
Two people have been killed over land disputes in Bhola and Sirajganj districts.
A man was stabbed to death allegedly by his cousin over a land dispute at Char Sifli village in Sadar upazila of Bhola yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Jasim, resident of the village, reports UNB.
Officer in-charge of Bhola Sadar police station Mahabubur Rahman said there had been a longstanding dispute between Jasim and his cousin Hasan Mir over ownership of a piece of land.
Trouble ensued yesterday following an altercation over the same issue in the morning.
At one stage, Hasan stabbed Jasim with sharp weapon indiscriminately at about 7:30am, leaving him dead on the spot. Police later arrested Hasan and his son Sabuj.
In Sirajganj, a man, who was injured in a clash over taking lease of government pond at Batiarpara village in Shahjadpur upazila on Tuesday night, died yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Yasin Ali, 65, of the village.
Police said there had been a longstanding dispute between two groups of people -- one led by Sarwar and Zaker Ali and the other by Ruhul Amin -- over taking lease of the khas pond.
As a sequel to the rivalry, both groups engaged in a clash on Tuesday night that left five people, including Yasin, injured.
The injured were rushed to Shahjadpur upazila health complex. Seriously injured Yasin succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka yesterday morning.
In Dinajpur, at least six people of two rival groups were injured over a land dispute in Chirirbandar upazila yesterday, reports our correspondent.
Four critically injured are Ferdous Alam, 40, Firoz Alam, 24, Firoza Begum, 60 and Rafiqul Islam of Ranirbandar village.
According to the locals, there had been a longstanding land dispute between Md Jolab Ali and Bablu Rahman. Bablu and his hired labourers yesterday went to the land to cultivate paddy. As the supporters and Jolab Ali resisted them, both groups locked in a clash with sticks and sharp weapon, leaving six injured on the spot.
