Two killed in clash over land dispute
Two people were killed and 20 others injured in a clash between two rival groups over a land dispute in Rajoir upazila of the district yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Ayna Bibi, 65, wife of Shajan Khalashi of Hossainpur village and Md Shamrat Hossain, 45, of Rajashairdi village of the upazila.
Quoting locals Rajoir police said there was a long standing feud between Mahar Ali Khalashi and Aynal Sheikh over the ownership of a piece of land in the area.
The rival groups engaged in a clash on Wednesday afternoon and vandalised a number of houses belonging to both sides.
To avert further clashes police forces were deployed on yesterday morning.
Mahar Ali Khalashi and his men attacked their rivals yesterday afternoon, promting them to retaliate. At least 20 people from both sides were injured in the clash that continued for an hour, said Mofazzal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajoir Police Station.
Of the injured Ayna Bibi and Shamrat Hossain succumbed to the injuries on the way to hospital while the rest were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and other clinics.
